Activités de recherche

Les microorganismes sont dotés d’une énorme capacité de produire des entités chimiques, dit métabolites secondaires ou spécialisés, qui jouent un rôle important dans l’interaction du microorganisme avec son environnement. Ces molécules sont aussi une source majeure de médicaments. L’accès aux séquences des génomes a révélé le potentiel immense mais sous-exploré des microorganismes à synthétiser de nouveaux métabolites. Mes intérêts de recherche portent sur 1) la découverte des molécules bioactives, notamment des nouveaux antibiotiques, en exploitant la biodiversité microbienne et guidé par l’analyse génomique ; 2) la compréhension et l’ingénierie des voies de biosynthèse ; et 3) la compréhension des rôles fonctionnels de ces métabolites dans l’environnement. Les approches utilisées sont pluridisciplinaires, combinant la chimie, l’enzymologie, la microbiologie, la génomique et la biotechnologie. Les projets en cours focalisent sur les peptides ribosomaux bactériens ayant des propriétés antimicrobiennes ou métallophores.
