Currently assistant research project leader, I work with Pr Philippe Grellier on a project in collaboration with the american biotech company CERUS. This company produces the INTERCEPT systems developped to inactivate numerous pathogens in pockets of labile blood products (total blood, red blood cell concentrate, platelets and plasma) to prevent the risque of contamination during transfusion. We perform at the MNHN tests to validate the efficiency of these systems for the inactivation of Plasmodium faciparum, the causative agent of malaria. Indeed, it is well known that contamination by transfusion is the second mode of transmission of the parasite. At the same time, we try to better understand, at a molecular level, how these processes eliminate the parasite.
